Myths and Truth: Aluminum Foil

For many years, aluminum foil has been in common use for cooking and packaging. However, there are still many rumors and guesses about its properties.

It is not true this causes any health effects in healthy adults. Your body absorbs less than 1% of the background aluminum in food or drinking water. Ninety-five percent of this is cleared by the kidneys. Most of the environmental aluminum you are exposed to passes out of your system within 24 hours.

•           Is it possible for aluminum to transfer to the food when it is heated?

 We give a negative answer to the question. So, you can still buy, for example, an Aluminium foil roll 9 meters for your cooking and packaging needs and use it with no harm to your health.

•           Does the foil oxidize the food and make it harmful?

The foil paper has an Al2O3 oxide coating that protects food from oxidizing. Still, such goods as lemon and other alkaline and acidic food destroy this coating and, then, interact. However, this interaction couldn’t be considered as dangerous. The only truth here is that this can spoil the food taste.

Aluminum doesn’t cause cancer

Aluminum has never been demonstrated to have a role in cancer. Aluminum smelter workers do have a higher risk of cancer, but this is due to exposure to other chemicals, not aluminum. It’s generally concluded that there is no good evidence aluminum causes cancer.

Should You Stop Using Aluminum Foil?

Aluminum foil isn’t considered dangerous, but it can increase the aluminum content of your diet by a small amount. As you are probably eating far below the amount of aluminum that is considered safe, removing aluminum foil from your cooking shouldn’t be necessary.
